We are back home in C-bad for a few days at least. We had a wonderful vacation with the Flemings and seeing the Wagners.

We took Addy skiing for the first time in Steamboat. She loved it as evidenced by her grin. Umpa gave her her first lesson.
Yesterday the Tolls and Flemings went dog sledding on Stagecoach lake outside Steamboat. It really special. Something we’ve wanted to do for a long time. While we were getting the dogs harnessed one of them started doing the potty dance and then went over to Rika, lifted his leg, and pissed on her.
The dogs were amazing and really wanted to run. Rika took the first leg in one sled with Hanna and Addy. While the dogs were being connected to the string 6 of them decided to go and somehow broke the tether. The sled with Rika, Addy, and Hanna went about 50 yards before the musher could get n and stop it.
Hanna, Ollie, and Kaj went in the second sled and all took turns driving. I took over for Rika at the Turnaround and Hanna took a turn helping drive our sled.
We are in Steamboat for the week. The Flemings are here with us staying at Chip and Peggy’s chalet. We are having a blast so far even though it is just day one. It dawned on me today that Addy is so lucky to grow up with Cousins near by that she can visit. We opened Easter baskets this morning after everyone woke up. Rika told everyone the jellybeans she spread around were bunny poop. Addy went around saying poop and eating them. Oli was all about the Jelly beans. Hanna is a sweet cousin and helps us keep track of Addy. Jo is smiling at everyone and enjoys getting held all the time.
After Breakfast we went to the Wagners and went sledding on their land. Addy had a blast. The wagners put on a easter egg hunt. All the kids wanted to make sure little Addy got eggs it was very kind.

The word is that Obama wrote this himself. His honesty is what sets him apart from Clinton and McCain. He is unwilling to write someone off for their imperfections and contradictions to satisfy his political gain. I’m always impressed that Obama actually acknowledges the complexity of issues rather then dumbing them down to polar positions.
I had to change Addy’s clothes the other day and I found this old shirt which belonged to me as a kid in her drawer. I think this is the shirt that one of my Uncles bought for me in Australia. I believe an Emu chased me as a result since they get triggered by red objects. It is fun to see her wear something I actually remember wearing.
Sundays are my long run days. Yesterday I did about 14 miles and it felt great. Usually I feellike I have to maintain such a slow pace to make the mileage goal. This time I felt good about 4 miles in so I picked the pace up. Today I am really sore. I think today is a rest day.
Rika motivated to go running after me. I’m so proud and happy we might be able to share running together. When the marathon training is done I can really enjoy it since our runs together won’t have to be warm-ups for the insane distances I have yet to do on any given day.
Day light savings messed with Addy’s sleep schedule. After having some water/juice this morning like she usually does when she wakes up she went back to sleep for 2 hours. We all got to sleep in!
Rika has agreed to do a 5-k run on April 26th that the Carlsbad running club is holding. We all went for a run as a family and it was great. Rika is starting off easy at my advice doing 7min on and 3 minutes off (walking) for 30 minutes.
After the family run I went for my 8 mile run and of course the the annoying golden retriever from up the street followed me. I’m so sick of this dog following me since it stops traffic and everyone thinks it is mine. So today I saw some people on a side street about 4 miles into my run. I diverted up the street and the dog ran up to meet the people I hauled ass back out into the main street while she was distracted and did not see her again. I’m feeling a little guilty now, but seriously folks take care of your dogs.
Lately I’ve been putting Addy to bed without Rika coming in for story time. This seems to get Addy to sleep the quickest without complaint. typically Rika will say goodnight and we will head off into Addy’s room for story time and bedtime. Tonight we were walking towards Addy’s room and I told Addy to say goodnight to mama. She kept walking and without turning around raised her hand for a casual wave and kept on going. We told her she had to come back for a real goodnight. Just a month ago she was freaking out when Rika left after story time.
It has been nice having that bonding time right before bed. Tonight after reading she grabbed my hand and put it on her forehead. She wanted me to pat her head.
We woke up to snow and cold this morning after a 75 degree day yesterday. Addy spent 15 minutes this morning standing on a bench looking out at the snow in wonder. She needs to be in the mountains. We went over to a friends house for Margaritas and the kids played together. Addy’s friend has chickens which Addy thought was the best. They fed them and Addy tried to give them a wooden egg.
It is weird that we have been in Carlsbad for almost 3 years and we have just now started meeting some normal people since we returned from Canada.
We’ll need to get some chickens for Addy now!
